I had just watched this anime... I felt the pain, the hardships that both the main characters are going through...

From being together since childhood until the they met each other when they are in middle-school, just right before he left after the kiss, it was still there.. but time goes on without them.

Both of them can't be together, writing through letters, phone calls to each other had no longer exists between them..

After sometime in year 2008, they matured to adulthood. Akari was preparing to get married while Tohno had a job and was dating a girl 3 years ago... until her current girlfriend acknowledges his trait of finding Akari again.

He eventually quit his job and left his girlfriend, living alone and knowing nothing about the world was all he ever cared. Just at this moment, passing by a woman while crossing the railway to the place where he and Akari promised to watch the cherry blossoms bloom again.They seemed to know each other after they crossed it but the trains made them lose their sight.

In the anime, Tohno stands and stares at the other side of the track but the woman wasn't there. We all know it was Akari, her hair, her eyes, that smile. At the end, Tohno smiles abit and went to where Akari was heading.
